Each month on Visual Film Diary, in addition to our continuous film reviews, we focus on a specific theme relating to cinematic history. June 2017's theme is Evil Women, in which we'll explore several actresses from the silent era onward who have helped to define the stock character of the vamp, an early prototype of the legendary femme fatale- a mysterious woman who uses her sexual prowess to bring men to their downfalls. Throughout the month we'll be profiling five actresses who made names for themselves as bad girls, and in doing so explore their films, their connections to the studio systems that created them, and their legacies.
